Airpods Pro's 1st Gen, refusing to switch between devices.

I have recently got a second hand pair of Airpod Pros, whose Serial numbers, show that it is still under limited warranty, and I am having issues with the Airpods switching between Macbook and iPhone. They will show up as sounds options to switch too, however they will not switch when I click on them. I have read almost all the advice on this issue, and I have set them to switch automatically, and I have tried reseting my Airpods. The only issue being when I hold down on the button on the back of the case it flashes amber and then to green, rather than to white, like the things I have read tell me it should. I am on Firmware 5B58, and they won't seem to update, even when being plugged into my Mac like other support forums have said. I don't know what to do here, because as of right now, they only can switch devices if I forget them of the one, and then connect on the other. If anyone has had a similar issue before or knows what could be happening please let me know!

Best,

Håkon

Hello Håkon28,

We understand you're having trouble getting your AirPods to automatically switch between your iPhone and MacBook.

We do see that you noted your AirPods have an outdated firmware version. We suggest reviewing the following about firmware updates. If you haven't already, make sure that your iPhone and Mac are running the latest software versions:

Firmware updates are delivered automatically while your AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi. You can also use your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to check that your AirPods have the latest version.

To use your iPhone or iPad to check that your AirPods are up to date, make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, then tap the Info button  next to the name of your AirPods. Scroll down to the About section to find the firmware version.

To use your Mac to check that your AirPods are up to date, make sure that you have the latest version of macOS. Press and hold the Option key while choosing Apple menu  > System Information. Click Bluetooth, then look under your AirPods for the firmware version.

In order for your AirPods to automatically switch, both devices have to be signed into the same Apple ID with two-factor authentication enabled: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

You also mentioned that when you try to reset your AirPods they are not flashing white. Make sure you're following the steps outlined in this article for resetting them: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

Note that you'll want to forget the AirPods from both your Mac and iPhone when preforming those steps.

If the issue persists after trying the above, we suggest contacting Apple Support so that they can look into this with you further. They can be reached here: Apple Support
