Firmware update no go on AirPods 4 plus more issues.

No go on firmware update for my AirPods 4. I have tried every trick found here and everywhere and still they won’t update. The other issue is I can’t pair all my devises to the AirPods 4 and then select them to be turned on as I move from one computer to another as needed. What I have to do is to forget the devise then re-pair in order to use it. It is very annoying and my old AirPods don’t do this. They were paired once to the devises and when I move from one to another they auto connect when Im in range or when I tell it to connect. No forgetting and re-pairing needed. It is terrible annoying and frankly Im not a happy camper with Apple about this. These are not cheap and I DO expect them to work flawlessly right out of the box. It is what I pay for. When they are connected they work as they should. Except for not being able to update the firmware. And that I have to forget and re-pair from devise to devise. Such an annoying problem. What’s the deal?

Re: Firmware update no go on AirPods

You may need the latest software update available on your Mac or device in order for the firmware to update.

Eg: What's new in the updates for macOS Sequoia - Apple Support says MacOS 15.4

If updating: Please remember it is always wise to back-up your Mac before updating MacOS

About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support

Eg: says:

Update your AirPods or AirPods Pro firmware

  1. Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, and that Bluetooth is on.
  2. Make sure that your AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  3. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi.
  4. Connect your charging case to power.
  5. Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid. Keep the lid of the charging case closed, and keep your AirPods in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  6. Wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
  7. Open the lid of the charging case to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  8. Check the firmware version again.

If you still can’t update your firmware, reset your AirPods, then try to update your firmware again.

You may want to check you did not accidentally prevent switching in Settings:

"Prevent AirPods from automatically switching to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac

  • iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Bluetooth, then tap next to the name of your AirPods. Tap Connect to this [device], then tap “When last connected to this [device].”
  • Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Bluetooth in the sidebar, then click next to the name of your AirPods. Below Connect to This Mac, choose “When last connected to this Mac.” "

Thank you kindly for your reply. Sorry nothing there was new to you, or anything that helped. We are all Apple users, like yourself, in the community.

Perhaps you may want to check with the store you bought the AirPods from.

Seems there are non-genuine lookalikes, and checking model and serial numbers is no longer a sure-fire way of checking validity.

All my computers are fully up to date. The information you sent is just more of the same that I have tried numerous times and still get no where. To continue trying this information is just insane. The pods won’t update and I am always needing to re-pair if I change from one computer to another. Each one I must forget then re-pair. Once connected it usually continues to work unless I walk away where it looses connection. Then I will need to re-pair and that means I must have my charge box in hand to do a re-pairing of the pods. This just bites. I can’t believe Apple would release a product that does this.
