AirPods can’t hold a connection?

I have 1st generation AirPods, my boyfriend recently got an IPhone so I offered to give him my old AirPods since I haven’t really used them for almost 2 years. I disconnected them from my ICloud and Bluetooth devices, and was able to connect it to his phone. However, the AirPods can’t hold a connection without disconnecting every 15 seconds or so and reconnecting. This makes it impossible to actually use them. I considered it may be a very outdated firmware, but there seems to be no way to manually update it, and the AirPods can’t hold the connection long enough to update. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Hi there CELESTE02,

You can see if following the steps below may help with the AirPods not staying connected. The title may not fully match what is happening but the steps could still be helpful.

If you can't connect to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Make sure that your iPhone or iPod touch has the latest version of iOS or that your iPad has the latest version of iPadOS.
2. Put both AirPods in the charging case and make sure that both AirPods are charging.
3. To make sure that Bluetooth is on, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
4. If your AirPods are connected, make sure that they're selected as your audio device. If your AirPods appear in the list of devices but they don't connect, go to the next step.
5. Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case for up to 10 seconds. The status light on the front of the charging case should flash white, which means that your AirPods are ready to connect.AirPods charging cases
6. Hold the charging case, with your AirPods inside and the lid open, next to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
7. Follow the steps on the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
8. Test your AirPods. If you still can't connect, reset your AirPods.

Those steps are from this article: If your AirPods won't connect - Apple Support

Also, does this happen if you try to connect the AirPods to another device? If it does, then you can contact Apple Support for further help with this as the issue appears to be with the AirPods themselves. This link can get you connected to Apple Support: Apple Support

Take care.

Here are some steps to the solution that I think worked out for me as a total.

• Restart your phone. Crucial I'd say after personal experience as the software wouldn't detect my airpods unless a restart was performed for some reason.

• Blow air at the holes of your charging case. It is said that dust may intervening with the airpods and the case connection.

• Take your airpods out of the case and put them back in. Repeat a few times. Possibly what stopped mine from blinking white light endlessly.

• Spam - press the button located on the case.

One of these steps should the least stop your case from blinking white light non-stop. A phone - restart is recommended after finishing all the steps.
