iOS 16.6: Unable to make calls and received calls cutting out

I have iPhone 13 and my wide an iPhone 11. Both were automatically updated last night to ios 16.6. Today we started experiencing problems where the person we contacted is telling us that our phones keep cutting out. We cannot call anyone and anyone who calls us tells us we are cutting out. Texts out and in work ok. Anyone out there having similar problems?

I contacted Consumer Cellular and they suggested changing to Wi-Fi calling when at home. Tried that and it did not work either.

Hello dlgl00,

Since you aren't able to make outgoing calls, you'll want to take the steps below:

Update your software
1. Check for a carrier settings update.
2. Check for an iOS software update. Some updates might require a Wi-Fi connection.

Check your settings
If you can't make or receive calls on your iPhone, follow these steps, testing after each step.

Check your network setings
1. Reset your network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase all current saved settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, preferred networks, and VPN settings.
2. Try to make or receive calls in another location.

Check your iPhone settings
1. Turn Airplane Mode on and off. Go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn it off.
2. Check Do Not Disturb. Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure it's off. Learn how to use Focus on your iPhone or iPad.
3. Check for any blocked phone numbers. Go to Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts.
4. Check Call Forwarding. Go to Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding and make sure it's off.

Should that still persist, have you experienced this behavior while at multiple locations?

Do you experience the same difficulties with FaceTime calls?

My iPhone 12 Pro Max went into sos only mode and dropped my Verizon connection completely. After removing my SIM card it worked for about 5 minutes then dropped again. Verizon believes this update is only intended for the 14 models without a removable sim and users were only told about security risks with this update and therefore they allowed me to trade in my iPhone 12 as a fully working model and get iPhone 14 even though I still haven’t fully paid the 12 off

Thank you chuckbl for all the suggestions. As frustrating as yesterday was we were amazed to wake up to two incoming calls from ppl we were trying to reach unsuccessfully yesterday. Today both phones were working just fine. They healed themselves overnight. That’s even more frustrating since I am sure it will come back to haunt us.

Thanks to the community for listening to our story and especially chuckbl for sharing many possible solutions.
