Maintaining Multiple Common Drop down lists across files

Does any one have any idea of how to synchronize drop down lists across files easily in Silicon Ventura on a desktop? Thanks in advance.

Hi IAMS_Work_in_Progress,

Welcome to the Numbers forum!

No. Numbers does not link between documents. And I am glad because moving documents around the file system breaks those links.

Also, I recall many times when a colleague would send me an Excel document that depended upon other documents, but did not send those other documents to me. And the colleague could not understand why I did not see what they could see. Doh!

Please reply with your overall aim (linking drop down lists*) and perhaps we can find a solution.

*In Numbers, drop down lists are called Pop-up Menus.

Regards,

Ian.

I understand your question from the point of view of Excel, where drop down lists can be populated by the content of a separate range of cells, whose values can change dynamically.

Alas, there's no such thing is Numbers and Numbers' pop-up menus are a totally different thing. Their options are set in the format of each cell themselves.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I need to define my question more. I do not use linked lists. New question, is there a way to maintain the drop down lists and not upset the current settings for the selected values in the lists. If one is to add, update or delete values in a list? If I have a column that contains, say 100 rows and each row has a different selected value and I want that coulmn to have the new list without changing the currently select values. It could be that I need a database to do this operation. Thus a new app either via Xcode or Web based.

Thanks for the reply
