Using the Microsoft One Drive App to sync files in Finder

The Microsoft One Drive app no longer appears on top of my screen and I cannot sync files through the Finder

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

See https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/onedrive-for-business/onedrive-broken-on-macos-10-15-catalina/m-p/3787672. Seems to be an issue with the current build of OneDrive and Catalina. Restoring an older version of the app from backup or other source is a temporary workaround, but unless you take further steps it is going update automatically and stop working again.
