facetime camera not working

I just bought a new computer (macbook air) and my face time camera does not work. It works fine for other apps. It just doesn't work for face time specifically.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

G'day valecascom,

We see you're having some issues using FaceTime on your Mac, and you've already checked out the resource titled If FaceTime isn't working on your Mac.

To get some information on what's happening, let us know exactly what happens when you try using the FaceTime camera. This will help work out troubleshooting steps that you can take.

In the meantime, if you haven't tried these steps from the link referenced above, double-check these to see if they help:

"If your camera or microphone doesn’t work

  • Quit FaceTime, then open FaceTime again.
  • Restart your Mac.
  • Make sure that FaceTime isn't open, then see if your camera works in another app, such as Photo Booth. If it doesn't, you know it's not an issue with FaceTime.
  • If you have multiple cameras or microphones connected to your Mac, check the Video menu in the FaceTime menu bar to make sure that you have the correct camera and microphone selected.
  • If the issue involves your computer's built-in camera, learn how to resolve issues with the built-in camera.
  • If the issue involves iPhone when used as a webcam, consult Continuity Camera: Use your iPhone as a webcam for Mac."

Best wishes.
