Do I need a payment method to download a free app?

It won’t let me download anything with out me having a payment method and I never had one before what do I do

My issue is that it’s saying it’s decline even tho I know for a fact that there are no issues with my credit card at all

My phone won’t let download apps with out a card and I don’t want to put a card in

The option “None” is no longer available. It’s only gives either credit or PayPal.

No, Idk why it does that Like I tried getting google on the App Store and I do the card stuff and it says “Your card was declined 🤭” LIKE WDYM DECLINED ITS FREE LIKE WHAT THE F-

This is honestly one the stupidest features

If you are being asked to enter a payment method, Apple has multiple criteria* requiring the presence of a payment method, even for free items. Since you may be encountering one of those situations, you have no option but to enter a valid payment method if you wish to continue downloading. The payment method may not be charged if you also have account balance or the item is free, but the payment method has to be present. It’s obnoxious that having a low balance on my payment method means I can’t download free apps. Your policy is terrible for poor people. Pretty rotten🍎

Okay so apple is charging my card I didn’t have enough money on it to pay the thing that I bought so I put money on it and unlocked my card I got to download one game then it started saying payment method but I just did that I got a new card because of this so I put that one on there can someone please help me understand this I just want this gone I have enough money to pay the bill but it’s not taking the money

"None" won't show if you are required to have a payment method present. See my earlier post for all the reasons why this might be the case.

You have to provide a payment method to verify the account. Until you do, you can't download anything.
