Is there a way to prompt for a verification code instead of calling the bank for Apple Pay?

Hi All! I am trying to add my card to Apply Pay, and the card needs verification. But the only option is to call the bank which is not the way of verification in my case, I need a prompt to enter the code. How to do that?

The request for verification is sent by your bank, not Apple. If your bank is requiring you to call, you need to call them. If the bank wants to verify with a phone call, make sure number is correct. If the phone number is incorrect, you need to call your bank and have the old number removed and new contact information added.

If anyone is still struggling with this, I have an answer!!

when you call the number to verify, and it asks you to state why you’re calling, say “Apple Pay verification”. It isn’t an option they give you, when the automated voice is speaking, not really intuitive, but whatever. It’ll take you through the same info input deal, but at the end, you’ll be connected to a human being who will then request to send you a verification code to verify your identity.

And voila, you’re done.

Here’s how additional verification works;

>>Adding additional verification

A card issuer can decide whether a credit or debit card requires additional verification. Depending on what’s offered by the card issuer, the user may be able to choose between different options for additional verification, such as a text message, email, customer service call or a method in an approved third-party app to complete the verification. For text messages or email, the user selects from contact information the issuer has on file.

A code is sent, which must be entered into Apple Wallet, Settings or the Apple Watch app. For customer service or verification using an app, the issuer performs their own communication process.<<

Apple can’t change a thing. Your bank has decided additional verification is required to make sure you’re the account owner.

Some permit you to add your card to digital wallets by going through their website and/or mobile app. If your bank permits that, it bypasses the additional verification your bank requires going through the Apple Wallet.

Sounds like your bank account was hacked. This is from Apple’s White Paper (link is below) on provisioning your card.

Apple is not a bank. Apple cannot verify a credit or debit card. Apple does not supply the methods to verify data. >>For text messages or email, the user selects from contact information the issuer has on file.<<

If additional verification is required, it’s on the issuing banks part. Your bank triggers the extra verification notification and uses methods it has on file. If an invalid email is associated with your account, the bank added it, a hacker added it or you added it.

I've just had a very strange experience. I added a replacement card to Apple Pay, and the verification methods pop-up. The first thing listed is an email address that is NOT mine. My correct phone number is listed and I could activate the card.

I called the credit card help number, the bank that issued the card, the technical support number for the Credit card, the technical support number for the bank, and Apple technical support. NO ONE can see fraudulent e-mail in any account.

This Credit card was hacked in July (the card I was adding is the replacement), and I think whoever hacked the credit card has somehow inserted their e-mail address into the Bank's Apple Pay verification system in such a way that the bank can't detect it. I wonder if the bank uses a third-party for their Apple Pay verifications and that is where the fraudulent e-mail resides?

Trying to verify my commerce account and I called the bank, which is the only option they give me, and the bank verified all of my information but still needs verification for Apple Pay. This is crap! There is nothing else I know to do because it doesn’t say what it wants to verify it just says verification is needed. Why is everything so difficult to accomplish these days???

There are third party verification services. The most common is the Payment Network Operator (Visa, Mastercard etc.). It is possible they have an email associated with the hacker. You will not be able to contact the PNO and get their cooperation in changing an email. Any change will need to come from a support ticket your bank opens up with the PNO, or other third party service. A support ticket will generally come from the IT department or Apple Pay support team at the bank.
