1 being added to sms txt message and failing

Have one number that use to work with txt messaging … now all messages fail because some where a 1 is being added at the front of the telephone number. This is a new occurrence, I have not changed anything and it used to work. I have rebooted phone, stopped using assist still cannot txt to this number that I texted to last week.

Phone number shows up red! I am having trouble sending text messages to some folks. The number will show up in red, with a message to the effect of “not registered with iMessage.” Sometimes this happens with new numbers and other times with folks I have successfully texted before. At work, we use a third party messaging/notification tool. Every morning we have to text a number to this third party app to indicate where we are for the day (1 = At work, 2=Telework, 3=sick, etc...). On Wednesday, texting the number 1 stopped working for at&t users. All other numbers (2,3,4,5,6,7) continue to work. To further test this, I texted my Android friend the number 1 and she did not get the text. This is not just happening to me. This is happening to everyone I work with and many of my friends that I tested with.

Text message defaults to old number I am trying to send messages to a someone that updated their phone number. I deleted the old number out of the contact list. But when I try to send a message to the new number iMessage somehow defaults to the old number. It is strange because in my message folder the number number shows the message. Then a few seconds later I see the same message in my message folder going to both numbers. And then a bit later the new number is gone and it only shows the old number. That old number does have a text history, but it is no longer in my contact list! I don’t want to delete the text history; is there anything else I can try?

Spaces, Hyphen or Parentheses in a Phone number depends on the International prefix
