How can I stop Apple from displaying photos from my hidden album on cover of their Places album on my iPhone?

The issue of the day is in Photos where I was surprised, more like startled when scrolling to find photos to show a client who was looking over my shoulder at my iPhone when an album called Places comes up and the photo screaming out at us was a photo from my hidden photo album.

Even deleting it from the hidden album and searching all other albums to make sure it wasn't present anywhere else in Photos did not remove it from Apple's album on MY iPhone.

Does anyone know of any way to hobble this Places album by completely blocking Apple from ever knowing my location to stop Places from displaying private photos under the pretext of identifying my location?

I hope this is a bug they will fix in an update soon because the hidden photo album thing isn't working all that well. At least they didn't choose the photo for my home screen photo, not yet anyway.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have only seen this problem in the early versions of Photos. When Photos used a photo to create a key photo for a location, before the photo had been hidden, it did not update the key photo when the photo became hidden. This happened on the Mac as well as the iPhone and iPad. Photos seems to favor photos with people in them as key photos, while I prefer photo of the scenic sights for the places map. So I have hidden most photos with people in them, but Photos has used them nevertheless as key photos for the People album and the Places.

I don't remember, when this has changed, for a few system versions Apple simply removed the locations from hidden photos. This kept them from the Places map and the Memories, but has been inconvenient when we wanted to look up a place for a hidden photo.

It seems to be fixed in iOS 16 and macOS 13 Ventura, when Apple introduced a password lock for the hidden album. Could you upgrade to your iPhone to iOS 16? I doubt that Apple will fix this bug in the older system versions.

On your phone settings - location/privacy - photos - never. However that doesn't if someone send you a photo with their location set to ON - then it going to show the location.

so no it's not a bug that Apple needs to fix.

In Settings>Photos, do you have "Show Hidden Album" turned off?

This seems like a very big deal-- certainly leave feedback for Apple here:

Feedback - Photos - Apple

But that gets you no response, just a "Thanks for your feedback." It would be worthwhile to call Apple Technical Support and chat to talk to someone. Maybe start here:

Thank you for a very good suggestion that seems should take care of the problem, unfortunately it didn't.

In settings at Privacy & Security, Location Services is OFF, also OFF are Show Map in Location Alerts and in Share my Location. The only place it is on is in Find My Phone.

In Tracking I have it toggled to the OFF position on all apps.

In "Apps with requested photo access" I have them individually set to whatever needs are required for the app to function while in use. I don't see anything among the list of apps that could be related to the Places album in Photos, except possibly Support, which I turned off.

The photo remains there as the cover photo of the Places album.

Does the Places album have a purpose? I wonder why we aren't allowed to choose which photo is on the cover of an album in our photos? Also, I see no way to add photos to it to perhaps pollute it with other photos so it might choose something else for its cover.

Is there a way to present this problem to Apple app designers to let them know this is a problem for at least one long time customer. I don't open Photos at all now if anyone is nearby for fear the Places folder will pop up or some new change I'm unaware of where Apple computers scroll through my photos choosing images to use here and there without my permission.

Thank you very much.
