Playing Music From Mac to Apple TV with Home Sharing Apple TV Shuts Off After 15 Minutes

Playing Music from my Mac's iTunes (I know "Music" -- the app) library using Home Sharing -- Computers / Music -- everything is fine for about 15 minutes then the ATV shuts off -- turns off / light out, not kicks me out of the song or pops back to the menu.

Doesn't seem to matter what song is playing or what else is going on.

The problem doesn't happen when I am streaming video or listening to Podcasts (which I do all the time for hours at a time).

The problem is new ... nothing has changed in my system or home (except, I guess, for Apple's automatic updates).

My computer is hard wired to my modem. The Apple TV is WiFi -- maybe 5m away without significant construction nor traffic. The WiFi strength is ***** frequency 5 GHz

My Apple TV:

4th gen 1080p 32 GB

tvOS 16.6

Mac Mini:

macOS 12.6.7

Music 1.2.5.7

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Apple TV HD, tvOS 16

Problem solved (sorta),

Turns out there is a "Sleep After" setting that somehow became set to "after 15 minutes."

Since I didn't know the setting existed I certainly didn't change it :-) I assume in some upgrade the setting changed.

I have now set my ATV sleep to "never" and things are fine.

The confusing this is the sleep function didn't impact my video streaming no my podcast listening -- only music.

Problem solved for now.

Hi jayessemm,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! It may be helpful to reset your Apple TV to factory settings since the software is already updated. A reset can resolve many issues. Here's how:

  1. "On your Apple TV, go to Settings > System > Reset.
  2. Choose a reset option:
    • Reset: This option is the fastest way to return your Apple TV to factory settings. This option doesn't require an Internet connection.
    • Reset and Update: This option returns your Apple TV to its factory settings and installs software updates. This option requires an Internet connection.
  1. Keep your Apple TV plugged into power until the Reset process finishes. Then you can set up your Apple TV again."

Find these steps in the article Reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings.

If the issue continues, contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Cheers!
