I'm having trouble hearing what people say during phone calls on my iPhone

Im having trouble hearing the person I’m speaking with during phone calls.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to adjust the volume control to that speaker. The volume button on the of the device is at its max.

If taking off the case doesn't help, you can try a FaceTime audio call to see if it's your phone or your carrier:

Use FaceTime with your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Since this seems to happen to you all the time, it may be your carrier. The other person doesn't need to have FaceTime for audio only, as far as I know. If you are not on wifi, you'll have to allow FaceTime to use cellular data. Go to Settings->Cellular and scroll down to enable FaceTime.

My sister and I use FaceTime audio as the sound quality is not good when calling through her cellphone company.
