iPad won’t update

could I use an iPhone to help resolve this issue with iPad instead of computer

Sorry no. Most likely your unidentified iPad model cannot support more recent iOS/iPadOS versions than the one currently running on it. Identify your iPad model (using these instructions:--> Identify your iPad model ), then check this compatibility list:
