ipadOS 16.6 drop wifi, while reading a page

The Wifi connection get lost, when not downloading permanently, at least some lines.

I found out, when I‘m reading without loading more the wifi connection drop within a couple of minutes.

The usual hints (Turn off wifi, airplane mode,…) doesn‘t help, only switch off and restart brings the wifi connection back on for a while…

The iPhon is still on 16.5.1 and didn‘t have any issues.

Anybody have similar problems?

All clarification is helpful. 🙂

Perhaps you can provide a little more - such as your model of iPad?

Check to see if your iPad is using the WiFi Private Address feature. This feature is intended to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can cause issues if specific MAC addresses are expected by your WiFi Router. You may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.

In addition to my initial words.

Switching zu a different Wifi and back to the first also brings the iPad (Pro 11“ 3. Gen.) back to Wifi, at least for some time. So my hope is, the fresh created problem will be solved within IOS 17.

My old iPhone X is now updated to IOS 16.6 and works flawlessly.

If the iPad disconnects when idle (sleep/locked) you may need to verify the your WiFi Settings for each of your configured WiFi Networks - ensuring that they are set to Auto Join:

Settings > WiFi > [WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - set Auto-Join to ON

Unless Auto-Join is enabled, your iPad will not automatically reconnect to the WiFi network when resuming from sleep - or when coming into range of your WiFi network.

Auto-Join is enabled/disabled for each configured WiFi network.

@LotusPilot

Thank you for your friendly reply.

The Wifi connection is lost - while being online and reading a couple of lines - since IOS 16.6

This has nothing to do with "auto join" reconnection after the iPad had set to idle.

The problem - Wifi connection lost - occurs every couple of minutes, while reading the recent downloaded lines.

Hopefully the actual problem is described clearer now?

@LotusPilot

I appreciate Your effort in narrowing down the problem towards a solution.

The iPad in question is, as mentioned earlier in this thread, a Model 11" pro 3. Gen. and the described problem existed since the update to macOS 16.6.

Yes, as you guessed the Wifi setting was -private address- and I changed it, as you suggested.

Now I'll watch, if there are still Wifi drop outs and will notify you, about the outcome.

In the meantime I say "thank You" for Your very welcomed assistance.

You are very welcome.

You are not the first - and are unlikely to be the last - in encountering difficulties when using the Private Address feature. This feature attempts to improve privacy through reducing opportunities for tracking your device between different WiFi networks.

A MAC Address is associated with a device network interface - this address (in theory) being unique to the device. Apple attempts to disrupt tracking of your MAC Address by (a) randomly generating a different MAC Address for each WiFi network to which you connect - and (b) periodically changing the generated Addresses. If your WiFi network is expecting a specific MAC Address (as may occur if you are using MAC-based network access control for your WiFi network), unless you continuously update your WiFi Routers Access Control List, your iPad will not be allowed to connect.

@LotusPilot

I appreciate your mindset...great, your'e helping me a complete stranger...thanks a lot.

I did as you had suggested, albeit there is no change with the Wifi dropout rate of the iPad, up to now.

Amazingly the old iPhone X is now on IOS16.6 and runs flawless on Wifi.

Probably is only the iPad Pro affected by...whatever the reason for the Wifi drops might be.

@LotusPilot

according to your sound suggestions, I switched off "Private Address" and watched the behaviour of my iPad. Unfortunately it still drops the WiFi connection every couple of minutes.

But it regained the connection, when shortly connected to an other Wifi and then the back to the first one.

So it seems I've to wait for iPadOS 17 and hope the with iPadOS 16.6 new created problem w'll be resolved.

Thank you anyway for your interest in my problem.
