If you have an iPad Pro that supports FaceID, you simply need to ensure that you have enabled (a) the Auto-Lock feature - (b) your iPad’s Attention Aware Features:
a) Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock - set to any timeout period (minutes) other than Never
b) Settings > FaceID & Passcode > Attention-Aware Features - set to ON
When enabled, if the device detects lack of activity (such as touching the screen to turn pages), your iPad will check that you are actively looking at the screen. If you are distracted and looking elsewhere, or asleep, the iPad will automatically lock.

I had the same problem with my new iPad. If you switch of „touch ID“, sleeping mode works again.
Contact Amazon for help with their application.
They should be able to tell you if there is a sleep function for their app
@LotusPilot Unfortunately, this did not work for me on either my iPad (mini 6) or iPhone 14. Neither device auto-locks when kindle app is open but not being used.
I haven’t set up Face ID, (preferring passcode) but I do have Attention Aware features toggled on.
I‘ve also done everything suggested in older posts (deleting, reinstalling, restarting, etc).
This was not a problem on my old devices which I just upgraded a couple of weeks ago.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Many thanks!
Stop acting as if you understand the issue and are an authority. (I’m not just reacting to this response, but others you’ve given on this topic, which is odd for someone not dealing with the issue to be trolling around, btw.)
We’ve obviously been using the app, falling asleep, and having the iPad auto lock for years. Suddenly, it has stopped. Sure, it could be an app update issue. Or it could be a system update issue. Or both. But, this community is for iPad users to come together to seek help from each other. Not be dismissed by some rando.
Your advice does not work. The kindle app doesn’t go to sleep and it’s the only app that doesn’t shut down after no activity. This whole mess just started recently and is very frustrating since the battery is running all night long.
Thank you so much. I've made the changes on my ipad. Now to try it.
You are very welcome.
This does not work for my Ipad mini or IP12pro
Same thing happening to me. Only noticed in the last couple of weeks. Amazon got me to try lots of different things, none worked so told me to contact Apple.
Didn’t work.
I’m not sure what you’re on about. I am no authority nor do I think I am. I was simply asking for help
