After updating my iPhone 8, can no longer stream music or phone to my hearing aids.

I am able to see both hearing aids in Bluetooth and they will pair with the Phonak app, BUT the 3rd component, required for streaming no longer appears in Bluetooth as it had been before IOS 16.6.

I reset the hearing aids to the factory settings, and the problem was still present.

I did the usually suggested diagnostics

  1. turn off Bluetooth, and then back on -no luck
  2. Power down iPhone -no luck
  3. Did a hard reset on iPhone - no luck
  4. Factory reset on hearing aids then restarted the Bluetooth search again. Found the hearing aids but NOT the 3rd item needed for streaming. - no luck

I did the above too many times to count, with no change in results

HELP!

I think I found a solution, or at least this worked for me.

Did a factory reset on Phonak hearing aids (HA). Make sure you hold the off toggle for a full minute. There are web pages that say 15-20 seconds. Did that and that didn't work.

Put the HA in the charger, ready for the next step

On iPhone8:

Stopped WIFI

Stopped Bluetooth

Deleted the Phonak app

Did a HARD RESET on my iPhone (I had tried power down/up before but didn't do anything)

Started WIFI

Started Bluetooth

Loaded the MyPhonak app again

I took the hearing aids out of the charger (they will not enter PAIR mode while in the charger)

Started the Phonak app

Follow the prompts to PAIR the hearing aids.

This trial and error worked for me

I can now stream music and answer the phone

Maybe this works for other hearing aid brands as well

I just thought I would document my steps

Good luck!

Sounds like your hearing aids are having compatibility issues with iOS 16.6. If you absolutely need the hearing aids to be able to hear, then you’ll have to use another device or wait until the next update. If you have an old iPhone or iPod, you could try using that until a new update patches this bug.

Sorry there isn’t anything else that can be done. I hope I have been of some help to you.

They do have pairing lights and they blink. I am very familiar with them and how to pair them, with or without the charger. The streaming results are great! Better than any headphones I've had in the past, which is why this is a big issue for me.

I also have an iPad with IOS 16.6 that I tested the hearing aids on, just to see if it was or wasn't iPhone. same results.

The problem is IOS 16.6
