iPhone 11 connecting via aux cable in a car won’t work

My son had an older car without blue tooth. The aux cable will play music from the phone for my phone, my wife’s phone, and my daughter’s phone - so we know it works… however it won’t work on my son’s iPhone 11. We’re all on the latest version of the iOS. Any insight on if there’s an issue with the 11 or is there something he may have deleted or not downloaded that would explain this situation?

Hi Eyeclowd,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you are running into an issue connecting an iPhone to play music in a vehicle, and we're happy to help. Start with the steps below to help isolate and resolve this behavior:

  1. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  2. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  3. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help.
  4. Try using wired headphones with the iPhone 11 to test if you're able to hear music that way.

Let us know the results of the steps above, and we'll go from there.

Thanks.
