Apple watch not unlocking macbook

After reviewing this link to confirm how the Apple Watch is able to unlock the Macbook, and even though the feature is turned on and I am on Ventura 13.5, apple watch os 9.6 and iPhone 16.6, it is not working.

Apple watch does not unlock Mac Mini I have an M1 Mac mini and an Apple Watch Series 6. Up until this morning, it faithfully unlocked my Mac. I have turned off unlock with Watch, restarted my Mac, turned unlock back on. It says synced but does not unlock my Mac. My Mac/watch/iPhone have all been updated to the latest updates. When I check the settings on my Mac, it was disabled. When I tried reenabling, I get the error: Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch. Make sure your Apple Watch is unlocked, on your wrist, and powered on. The watch is unlocked, on my wrist and powered on. This has been working just fine until I upgraded today.
