Thank you for sharing your suggestions and experiences with this matter! After trying everything I could find to solve the problem of the Mac mini not recognizing the camera and almost giving up, I tried a new SD card and it solved the problem! Fortunately the footage on the old SD card wasn’t needed and a new card did the trick! I also purchased a USB-C to SD Card Reader to make the process of moving video footage to the computer easier in the future. Thanks again!

Hi, kvanoort, here's the support page for the JBC GZ-HD3U " Everio" camcorder, at least that's what the software is called, and yes, it looks like it's Windows only, and that the applicable software is required.... anyways, here's the link: http://everio.jvc.com/hdeverio/feature/feature_04.html, but.....luckily for you (and me) there's a way around it...see this link:https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/jvc-everio-hdd-camcorder-instructions-for-mac-users.316036/,,,this YouTube video on how to import video files into iMovie from your camcorder might be useful:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLvfoESMQGs otherwise you'll have to buy some kind of video converter application/software/program to do that for you...I can't recommend any of them as I've never used one before, never bought one before and have no experience with any of them... I used to have an old Sony (or other ) camcorder with iLink on it (4 pin Firewire) or analog out, * plus analog to USB video dongle and capturing software...from Elgato, I got a whole kit for that, and that's how I got my video transferred from a camcorder to my Mac, and then into iMovie, cleaned it up, saved it, and then burned it to iDVD (this is back in the days when a free copy of iWorks/iSuite was included with every Mac) . Took loads of time, effort, me learning how to use iMovie (turn on extended features) , which I did and made a whole bunch of video dvd's (with menu) from all that.... how many video tapes of various formats was I asked and tasked to transfer the video from? Oh, a cr*pton...I don't know what the metric equivalent of that would be, or the European equivalent....plus I scanned in a whole bunch of slides, photos, negatives of various sizes and conditions, again, another cr*pton of them..... yup, I did 'em ALL....

Hi Kvanoort, Jacob Here. I would first recommend checking that both your Mac mini and your JVC GZ-HD3U are both running up-to date software, which for your Mac is macOS Ventura 13.5. After that, if you still aren't seeing your Camera within finder on your Mac, you should check that the cable you are using to connect your camera to your Mac isn't damaged in anyway and is of the appropriate specification to connect to macOS and subsequently be discoverable in finder
