TV app not loading all poster/cover art for both purchased and homemade content

Hi, I've been having an issue for a few weeks now where the TV app on my Mac (running Venture 13.5) won't load all the cover art for various titles. for the homemade content if I do Get Info it will show the art is part of it, but it won't show it on the main display. For purchased content it randomly just won't show anything. For some TV shows nothing will show, for others the season/series art is showing but not the individual episodes. For the homemade content it is only effecting things I've added in the last couple weeks, everything older is working correctly. Attaching images of the purchased content because that is the more obnoxious part IMHO.

I've tried logging out and back in, restarting the computer, I even tried reinstalling the OS and nothing has worked. I tried calling apple and we weren't able to get anywhere.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.5

Hello wraithkelso,

Thank you for letting us know. Next, what we would recommend, is testing this issue in another user account. What we need to do, is log out of your current user. Log back in under another Standard or Administrator account and see if the same issue occurs there. This way we can tell if it is an issue with your user account, or if it is system wide: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

"Add a user

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
    • Administrator: An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change settings. The new user you create when you first set up your Mac is an administrator. Your Mac can have multiple administrators. You can create new ones, and convert standard users to administrators. Don’t set up automatic login for an administrator. If you do, someone could simply restart your Mac and gain access with administrator privileges. To keep your Mac secure, don’t share administrator names and passwords.
    • Standard: Standard users are set up by an administrator. Standard users can install apps and change their own settings, but can’t add other users or change other users’ settings.
    • Sharing Only: Sharing-only users can access shared files remotely, but can’t log in to the computer or change settings. To give the user permission to access your shared files or screen, you may need to change options in File Sharing, Screen Sharing, or Remote Management settings. See Set up file sharing and Share the screen of another Mac.
  1. For more information about the options for each type of user, click the Help button in the lower-left corner of the dialog.
  2. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  3. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  4. Click Create User.
  5. Depending on the type of user you create, you can also do any of the following:
    • For an administrator, select “Allow user to administer this computer.”
    • Select “Allow user to reset password using Apple ID.” To use this option, the user must have set up iCloud on this Mac. However, this option isn’t available if FileVault is turned on and set to allow the user to reset their password at startup using their Apple ID.
    • Use Sharing settings to specify whether the user can share your files and share your screen.

For information about Apple’s privacy policy, see the Apple Privacy Policy website.

If your Mac or Magic Keyboard has Touch ID, a new user can add a fingerprint after logging in to the Mac."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

The issue is still persisting. Mac Os is Ventura 13.5. TV app is version 1.3.6.14. The issue is happening with purchased movies and shows whether downloaded (screenshot attached) or in the cloud. It also happens with move media (not purchased) that is on the computer's drive, if I select "Get Info" I can see the artwork, but otherwise I'm getting that default grayed image and if I try to view it on the tv the art isn't showing either.

I also just discovered the same problem happening in Music with new albums' art not showing. (screenshot attached). I also have my music library synced to the cloud so that my homepod and phone can play it and I checked to see whether the art showed on the new song from my phone and it still didn't show.

For the media I manually added to the libraries (and had to then put in all the titles, descriptions, artist info, etc) it is only effecting things added since August 5th, everything prior to that shows the artwork the way it should.

Ok, finally got around to trying this. When I logged in to the test account I set up and opened both Music and TV I was able to view all the album and poster art. Then I checked the newest additions in music, I re-added the art and now they show up on my phone so it actually saved the art to the cloud file, so that issue is somewhat solved. Also all the purchased TV and movies loaded the correct artwork (see screenshots). I wasn't able to view the library of my homemade content to see if those would load correctly. When I logged back into the primary account the issues still persist in both apps. It might be worth mentioning that the test account was a brand new setup and was the first time I'd logged in to music and TV in that user account.

Is there a way to let the test account also view my local library to check the art saving issue on that side? I set it up as a standard account.

My limited knowledge of these sorts of things tells me the issue has something to do with my main user account that needs to be fixed, as opposed to a computer wide issue.

Hello wraithkelso,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's verify if you have Still frame or poster art selected for Up next display. These steps will guide you on how to find it:

"Adjust settings for the Apple TV app

  1. Open Settings  on Apple TV.
  2. Go to Apps > TV, then do any of the following:
    • Use your play history for personalized recommendations and Up Next: Turn on Use Play History.
    • Show or hide live sports scores: Turn Show Sports Scores on or off.
    • Choose the art you want to see in your Up Next watchlist: Select “Up Next Display,” then choose Still Frame to see still frames from what you’re watching, or Poster Art to show main title images for shows or movies.
    • Set what appears on the Home Screen when the Apple TV app is highlighted in the top row: Select “Top Shelf,” then choose What to Watch to see previews of featured TV shows and movies, or Up Next to see what’s in your personal queue.
    • Get Game Start and Close Game notifications for games you’ve added to Up Next: Turn on Games in Up Next.
    • Get notifications about recommended sports and events: Turn on Exciting Games.
    • Turn the sound on or off for background videos that automatically play in the Apple TV app: Turn Autoplay Video Sound on or off.
    • Set which Apple TV channels and apps share content with the Apple TV app: Select an app from the list to turn it on or off.
    • Remove information about what you’ve watched (which is synced with the Apple TV app on other devices): Select Clear Play History. This also removes TV shows and movies from Up Next."

Additional details can be found here: Adjust Apple TV app settings

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Which macOS version do you currently have? Also, doe this happen to downloaded shows/movies as well as ones that happened been downloaded?

Cheers!
