my sister is a mcAfee popup on her MacBook telling her to renew my subscription- not sure she ever had one. How do you make that go away ?

Easy. Read Stop unwanted Notifications - Apple Community

Also, why do I keep getting a “sign into google” popup when I am using safari with duck- duck-go?

The reason is the website in question has been coded to ask you for it. Despite what some people claim this can occur whether or not you have — or have ever had — a Google account.

If you do have a Google account, read https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/12849458

Otherwise, register your complaint with the website developer or administrator or whoever is getting kickback revenue from Google for that annoyance.

What makes you ask? Keep Security Software off of your Mac.

Scan with MalwareBytes for Mac:

This is software that searches for malware/adware. So, scan with it and then remove what is found. Once removed, uninstall MalwareBytes for Mac, if desired. It is created by long time users of these forums, making it the only trustworthy Security Software for a Mac.

All other Security Software just gets in the way on a Mac, So, uninstall Security Software on your Mac, using the uninstaller for it (found on the developer's site). Ask the developer which uninstaller to download, if you are uncertain. As for removing it, you'd remove it from the Quarantine.

Malwarebytes for Mac Downloads:

  1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
  2. Malwarebytes Uninstaller
