Gmail messages going to wrong Mail Mailbox folder

iMacRetina 4K, 21.5 inch, 2019

macOS Venture 13.5

Mail Version 16.0 (3731.700.6)

I'm using iMAP Gmail as an email service provider. Occassionally, messages are appearing in the wrong folder. An email sent 3 days ago has just appeared in the Inbox although the Mailbox column shows it as being in the Sent folder.

If I go to the Gmail webpage, it is showing in the correct sent folder …

So, Apple Mail seems to be placing some messages in the wrong folders.

Have done a rebuild which doesn't change anything.

Any ideas why this is happening?

OK, so perhaps I've solved it myself.

The "Rebuild" command in Mail seems no longer to actually do anything …

Using Onyx (because that's a lot easier than Terminal and Command line management), I deleted and rebuilt the Mail Index, which has cleared the problem - at least, for the moment.
