My iPad Pro 11 inch booted up with an entire row of dead pixels, what can I do, without warranty (2.5 years old)?

Hello all,

since yesterday I have a horizontal line on my iPad Pro 4th generation. The device is just 2.5 years old and was used exclusively at the desk to read the news. It has no thermal, nor mechanical damage - the device is virtually as new.

I am sure the fault is due to faulty hardware (display) - have owned more than 5 iPads in my life, one iPad 2 is even still in continuous use as a radio.

The device was reset to factory settings, which unfortunately did not help. Since the device is half a year older than the warranty, I would have to pay over 600€ for a display replacement at Apple.

From a good manufacturer, I expect that a product costing over 1000€ will function faultlessly for more than 3 years and if not, the device will be replaced as a gesture of goodwill. Apple now refuses and that although I have already bought devices for 20,000€.

If it also goes to others, writes a post - and reshare this.

I would have expected more from Apple!

You can easily determine if you have a hardware or software issue. A reliable method to confirm a screen or other hardware fault is to take a screenshot when the fault is evident - and then review the captured screenshot image...

When reviewed, if the lines are not present in the screenshot image, then you have demonstrated that you have a hardware fault that, sooner or later, may become sufficiently severe that repair or replacement of the iPad are the only options. If the lines are visible in the screenshot, the something other than hardware will be the cause.

Note: When reviewing the image, rotating the iPad screen orientation by 90°, from Portrait to Landscape, will ensure that the image does not coincide with screen defects if present.

If the test indicates that a hardware fault (as, given your description this is very likely) a visit to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store is recommended - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. This will likely inform your next steps:
