Iphone 13 Pro Max Display turned white

I brought Iphone 13 Pro Max, 1 year and 9 months ago, I also bought Icare with my phone.

For the tenure of 1 year and 9 months my phone worked perfectly fine, no issues at all.

One night before sleeping, I put my phone on update, next day when I woke and checked my phone's latest update, it worked fine for a minute or so, suddenly display started flickering. I though there might be any bug. I restated my device and BOOMMM! display turned white dead. I tried restarting, restoring but nothing seem to work. I visited Unicorn Store (Apple Authorized). by just looking, did not even touched my phone, technician told me that display is gone and I have to get it replaced, that would cost me 37,500 since my Icare expired.

I asked them to atleast check my phone and his arrogant answer was, I can diagnose your phone and would charge you 1800 for it, and then I will give you exact same answer so, either to save his time by replacing display or I can get a latest Iphone.

Not sure what should I do.

My phone is 100% condition, no dent, scratch or misuse, neither water damage. No one can say it was ever used. Why should I pay for something that was not caused by me.

I don't have that kind of money to replace display nor I trust third party vendors as I did have bad past experience.

If anyone knows solution please suggest.

Did you get your phone back?

I was advised by apple support to visit the nearest authorized service centre. So I did. There I was informed that for iPhone 13 models white screen issue apple is replacing the display free of cost provided:

  1. There is no physical damage on the phone (to be checked in detail investigation by their technicians)
  2. The phone should be in a working condition apart from the white screen.
  3. There should be a valid invoice of the phone

They may charge you an initial ₹1500 as a service charge but if your repair is approved for exception by Apple, this will be refunded to you or you may have to forego it as labour charges.

I received my repaired phone today. So I was reminded of your peculiar situation.

Thanks Apurna for your conversation!

Yes my touch screen was working and I was able to use my phone with help of Siri, but just for texting someone and calling someone.

I talked with a third party repair center for this issue, and he suggested that there are lots of people facing same exact issue and it has a simple solution. The issue is caused by hardware installed on Display, that can be fixed under 5000 Rs. it does not require a display change at all.

Trigger point for this is little complex to understand but when you update your iPhone, display hardware sometimes misbehaves with this software upgrade and it results into white screen / yellow / green screen.

I have read through hundreds of discussion where majority of 13 series user are experiencing same issue (13 pro & 13 pro max).

I talked with Apple Advisor, and submitted my iPhone to another apple store for Diagnostics.

They sent my phone to Bangalore office to verify what caused issue, and they confirmed that there was no liquid damage or and physical damage or neither was my phone misuse my user.

However, my advisor tried her best to get display replaced in exception.

We waited a week for approval but I did not get approval for exception. Saddest part is I never got an answer.

It's been more then 8 days still I have not heard back from anyone, my advisors Aditi & Ankita are following up on this again and again but they are not receiving information from Bangalore store.

This is worst experience. Now I am planning to use my phone as a paper weight only, and that too if I ever get my phone.

Were you able to operate the touch screen under the white display? Because I was able to in my phone. You can see my post if yours was a similar issue. I was able to use it with the "Voice Over" option in Accessibility settings. You can try that if you get your phone back without replacement. Please keep the matter updated here as I am planning to approach the consumer forum if they decline me complimentary replacement.

I faced exact same issue 3 days ago. All apple does is refer to service centre and the service people give the same advice they did to you. This is an apple issue but they are asking customers to pay for it. Is there no way to make apple resolve this on their won without asking customers to cough up another 30,000+ to repair something they did not break? I came across thousands of people on community forum with this issue. This is turning out to be a revenue generator for apple.
