iTunes Match creates musical chaos on new MacBook and iPhone 12 Mini.

Both devices are running the latest software as of yesterday.

Since purchasing iTunes Match my Music app on both iPhone & MB have gone crazy!  Many tracks have simply vanished, mostly purchased from the iTunes Store. Rare albums not in Apple’s Music library have some tracks greyed out, so not playable on the Mac, but are present and can be on the iPhone. With many tracks bought a long time ago I get ‘This Computer is Not Authorised to play’ etc etc (This could be because they were purchased with an old Apple ID which I no longer have the details of); and on it goes.

I thought that iTunes match was supposed to sync everything regardless of origin. Could I reinstall 'Music' from an iTunes or Time Machine backup?

Please can anyone save my sanity and help with this chaos?!

Hi bolinj2,

Thanks for explaining the situation.

It sounds like you might have checked already, but make sure your computer is currently authorized to play the content from your Apple ID:

Authorize a PC to play iTunes purchases - Apple Support

If that hasn't worked, it could be as you mentioned, that your content is split among multiple Apple ID. You'll need to figure out what that Apple ID is if you want to gain access to content associated with it:

If you forgot your Apple ID email address or phone number

If that hasn't solved it for you, we recommend contacting Apple Support to have someone help you sort out any account concerns you're facing:

Thank you for helping with this problem. Firstly I do not have an Apple Music Account. Most of the missing songs were purchased through iTunes years ago, and I think it is possible that they were bought with a different Apple account which I no longer have the details of.

I have checked all of the criteria you mentioned regarding making sure that all devices are signed in with the same account etc.

But viewing the cloud status of songs in the music app is revealing. Some of the missing songs simply show ‘error’. It seems that most of these I ripped to iTunes for CD’s I no longer have.

Then there is a group of ‘Ineligible’ songs, where I get the ‘This computer is not Authorised to play etc’ and would I like to Authorise it? But it is already Authorised.

Then there is the cloud symbol with an exclamation mark in it, which produces the message ’This song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? And so on, this exhausting!!!
