How to stop brightness dimming on iphone 14 pro, with all options turned off for auto-brightness

i would like to have control over my own phone’s brightness but apparently that’s not allowed. It keeps dimming when i’m outside to the point where i can’t see anything even with the brightness on maximum.

Auto brightness turned off

true tone turned off

face ID & attention turned off

night shift turned off

the only good answer here is to tell me how to turn the auto dimming off.

I very much doubt it.

The reason I bought this up was: I had been having issues with my brightness dimming, growing brighter, dimming, etc. for a very long time. It had never happened 24/7. Only sometimes during the day. (During the time when I was doing a certain activity which requires a lot of power, I would later realize.)

Recently, I was reading posts in older ASC threads, just seeing what I could learn about random topics, when I stumbled upon a very interesting post. It read something like this: “When your iPhone heats up, and the heat has nowhere to go, the brightness will automatically dim to protect the device…” Now, I know I completely butchered what the original post said, but you get the idea.

Well, after I read the post, I kind of forgot about it. However, when I next experienced my screen fading and growing brighter and fading again, etc., I thought back to the post above. So I touched the screen, just to see what the temperature felt like. And what do you know, it was quite hot!

So, with the post above in mind, I took of my heavy duty, very protective case, and about 10 mins later, my screen had become very noticeably cooler, and the brightness had returned to and never again left the set 100% brightness level.

Of course, true experiments mustn’t be tried only once, so the next two days I repeated the process I have relayed above. Both times, the brightness stopped fluctuating after I removed the cover.

After that, I took to removing the cover when I was performing the activity which required a lot of battery power, thus heating up the device, and I have never had this problem since.

Are you having the same problem I’m having? Perhaps, perhaps not. What I suggest is, take off the cover, and see if the issue persists.

You’re welcome!

Just to make sure, the auto brightness setting you’re referring to is located here: Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, (located at the bottom.)

I can see how one could get confused, and think that the “Automatic” setting in: Settings > Display & Brightness is referring to brightness, when it is actually referring to Dark Mode.

And if you indeed had the right auto brightness setting turned off, then I suggest you reach out to Apple Support.

Take care!

Despite disabling auto-brightness settings like Auto-Brightness, True Tone, Face ID & Attention, and Night Shift, your iPhone 14 Pro might still dim due to an accessibility feature called "Reduce Transparency." Check Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and ensure "Reduce Transparency" is off. If it persists, contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Hello LuCase_!

The only setting left (that I know of) that may automatically change your brightness, can be turned off in: Settings > Accessibility > Motion. Once you’re there, turn off “Dim Flashing Lights.”

If that didn’t help, you may want to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance:

Have a nice day, and good luck!

I have just made sure it was also turned off.

Much of my research leads to the fact that it can overheat and for hardware damage preventative measures it will automatically dim the brightness.

I don't think there is a problem with the hardware or software of the device since I've made every diagnostic possible and i was reaching out to see if anyone would reach a different conclusion than mine.

Thanks for the input!

The reason depending on device the heat could be dangerous to components in the device depending on what temperature it reaches.

You don’t want it to do like other devices where the heat, heats up the battery and either starts a fire or explodes.

Or the device stops working because a part on it burned out from the heat.

Also, things learned from history is that manufacturers don’t want the devices getting so hot and then a user using and get burnt on the face or hands from the heat without anything covering or protecting it so they regulate things to prevent that.

So some devices have features to regulate or stop a device from reaching a certain temperature for safety reasons.

But these things didn’t become public or wasn’t talked about until the incident with Samsung phones years back when the phones caught fire or exploded.

Basically it is done either for the protection and safety of you or your device.

Most times you can’t do anything about it or may have to sign a waiver saying you won’t hold anyone label if you get hurt or if the device is damaged from misuse because it could damage your phone causing it not to work right or not work at all.

H1290, that’s the exact type of problem I’m having!

I use my tablet for work, I need it at full brightness, but it will randomly flash to a dimmer brightness. after a while it flashes back to full brightness. The entire time my settings say it’s at full brightness, without changing.

My case is clear and I’d say fairly thin, thought the tablet does seem to get fairly hot after a long time working.
