My MacBook says “name” and “password” and I keep putting my name and my MacBook password and iCloud password and it still won’t unlock

I’ve summited every password I’ve ever had and it still won’t unlock pls help

Is this for the login screen or does this happen after you are logged into your macOS user account?


If this occurs on the login screen, have you always had to manually enter the username & password? If not, then there may be some other macOS issue here.


Does this occur while logged into macOS to allow some functionality? Check to make sure your user account still shows up as an administrator. Go to the "Users & Groups" section of System Preferences/Settings to check whether the macOS user account you are trying to authenticate shows as "Admin".


Is this a 2018+ Mac?


It really helps to know the exact model of the Mac and version of macOS involved. You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac", or if you cannot log into the Mac, then you can get the exact model by entering the system serial number here:

Make sure you haven't accidentally enabled the Caps Lock. Try using an external keyboard in case the current keyboard has a problem.
