It is a hardware issue. The display /display assembly /cable connection is starting to fail. I would suspect it will get worse over time...
You can compare your results on an external monitor plugged in. External monitor comes direct from the GPU bypassing the internal display.
You can use it with out issue it if serves your purpose.
In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
