"Number not available. Which number would you like to send the message with?"

[quick background]

I have 2 phones. Which one has one SIM card. One is for personal and the other for work purposes.

Both devices are linked on my iCloud account and both with iMessage on.

The work number SIM card phone is always at home and my personal one is always with me. (I don't want to carry two devices everyday).

I was used to receive the messages on both devices and when I receive messages on my work number, it was always easy to reply the messages back.

But now suddenly when I try to reply messages from my work phone through my personal phone the pop-up shows up "Number not available. Which number would you like to send the message with?"

I didn't change anything in the settings and it was working great before.

I really don't want to carry two devices everywhere I go.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

All iPhone 13 models have dual SIM feature. Based on your profile you have one device which is iPhone 13 Pro Max and you have not mentioned the other iPhone model that you have. Which model is being used for Work and which for personal.

The error message "Number not available. Which number would you like to send the message with?" usually means that your iPhone is not set up to use Dual SIM. Dual SIM allows you to use two different phone numbers on the same iPhone.

Here are some other things you can try:

  • Make sure that your iPhone is turned on and has a good cellular signal.
  • Please check if iMessage is still active on both
  • You have SMS plan enabled on both SIMs by your Carrier. Apple Inc does not provide SMS services
  • Are you trying to send MMS? Check if MMS Plan is enabled by your Carrier as Apple Inc does not provide MMS services
  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Remove and reinsert your SIM cards.
  • Update your iPhone to the latest software.

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the missed information.

My main iPhone is 13 Pro Max and the work one is iPhone Xs.

I am not using dual sim, but I have two iPhones that I was used to send and receive messages through them.

The interesting fact is that I can reply my messages through my Macbook and also on my iPad (both don't have a SIM card), but if I try on my iPhone 13 it shows the error "Number not available. Which number would you like to send the message with?".

So my question is, why my Macbook and my iPad can send the message but not my Iphone 13? All of my devices are connected on the same account and sync each other.

Ps: I have tried all of your suggestions but none worked :(
