Bluetooth distortion during calls

During calls whether on Zoom calls, Whatsapp calls, Phone calls I start to get distortion and call becomes broken up i.e. I can't hear the person properly nor they hear me properly. I have also changed from Earpods to a Beats Headset and the same things happens. I can drop from using the devices to using the speaker and the call returns to normal so its my iphone device's bluetooth connection that's the problem.

I have restarted my iphone but the problem persists. I have an iphone 13pro and wondering is there a fix?

So I finally found a solution that is working for me.

Turns out that my old Apple Watch gen 1 was the issue. Since I turned it of a couple of weeks ago I have not experienced any sound issues whatsoever.

Hi.

I’ve had the same issue for a couple of years.

First on my iP12 PRO and now on my iP14 PRO.

It’s intermittent and it garbles the voice of the other person for both the caller and the receiver.

It sounds like the person you are talking to have dropped their phone into a glass of water and it only appears in phone calls (I have no recollection of the problem appearing during FaceTime calls or any other video/voice chat).

It affects the connection between my phone and my AirPods PRO (first gen).

And exhibits the exact same problem when I’m connected to my wife’s AirPods PRO or my 2023 Tesla.

If I switch the sound back and forth between my AirPods (or my car) and my phone it goes away but sometimes appears after a while again

Ive had my AirPods replaced twice (because of that other sound issue apple still fixes outside of warranty) and I have once done a DFU on my iP12 PRO setting it up as a new unit without restoring from my iCloud backup.

Ive been in contact with my service provider (just in case) but there is (of course) nothing wrong in their end).

If any of you also having the issue have found a solution, please post :)

Thank you :)

Hello,

no it all apps and actual Phone calls as per my original comment "During calls whether on Zoom calls, Whatsapp calls, Phone calls".

Its the Bluetooth connection so an actual phone issue. When i stop using earpods or my Beats earphones and use the normal phone speaker or loud speaker the calls are fine.

You are describing my same situation to a tee. When I'm on a call, it randomly starts going in and out like it's breaking up. It doesn't happen every time; many times I can get through a call with no issues, but sometimes it happens multiple times on the same call. If I take out my earbuds and go to speaker, the problem goes away. After a bit, I put the earbuds back in and continue the call... until it happens again. It has been so frustrating that I want to chuck my iPhone out the window sometimes. This has happened with 2 different iPhones (the 11 and now the 14), and with multiple different earbuds (I started with LG and thought it was a compatibility issue, so I bought very expensive Airpods Pro 2). It never happens when listening to music or audiobooks. I called and spoke with 2 different Apple experts and both said they've never heard of the problem before. My wife has the same phone and same Airpod Pros, we are on the same service, and she has never experienced this issue. I'm convinced it must have something to do with some setting on my phone from years past. Can some very smart Apple expert please offer help with this. I have been a very long term Apple user (I even had the Apple II home computer), but this issue is making Android look very tempting...
