Is it okay to use Apple Pay when paying a zero-dollar transaction?
Currently, when I pay for a zero-dollar product to an ordering app, the Apple Pay transaction returns an error.

What are you referring to when you say zero dollar transaction? Are you referring to account verification? Apple doesn’t have a support document that specifically addresses account verifications. From personal experience, it has worked with some merchants and issuing bank. I suspect it might vary from bank to bank.
Thank you for the additional information. Apple Pay only reveals the last 4 digits. Some loyalty rewards need additional numbers, some rotate required information, or block the data.
Another factor is the Apple Pay account number is different than the physical card number. This enables you bank to determine the transaction method.
I have a loyalty point from a merchant in an ordering app. I get to order a free product. In the ordering app, I still need to go the usual process of selecting the free product and paying for it through Apple Pay so that merchant can see my order and process it.
The product is free (zero dollar). Apple pay starts processing and then returns “Payment Failed”
