New Apple Home update: list of compatible OS devices?

My iphone (14 pro) offers to update my Apple Home network to newest version...

But then warns me that some of my OS devices won't work unless they are completely updated - which they are. Example: iPad Air 2 (MH1Y2ll/A) is on latest OS 15.7.8. No other update available.

I have two iPads that can control home today (wall mounted) and I can not afford to lose their access to Home.

Online search suggest one needs to be on OS 16? But can't find confirmation on Apple website.

Safe to proceed or better not?

The new home architecture won't work on your iPadOS 15.x device and, in addition, iPads are no longer able to perform the home hub role, so if you don't already have a suitable Apple TV or HomePod you'd likely break your home automation system completely.

Thanks, I kinda' come to expect that.

Fortunately I have 4 HomePods and 2 ATvs, so it'll not completely break. But I really rely on those wall mounted (old) iPads to control it and don't see myself buying "new"ish refurb iPads just for home control.

I guess I wait a bit longer to update Home until it's a really compelling reason. So far Apple only says vaguely "to improve stability". Time will tell.

Thanks again!
