No sounds on GMAIL

I had an iPhone 13 and I tried everything possible. I watched Youtube (even attempted all of th esolutions proposed by the gentleman who had 13 things to try on your iPhone 14/pro/max etc.). I went to the "genius bar" at the Apple store, I spent hours on the phone with Apple in California. Finally it was suggested that I upgrade so I purchased the Iphone 14 Pro and have the same outcome. The people I spoke to at Apple are patient and helpful but they don't seem to have any idea why these phone are not getting the sound for Gmail (and other email accounts). The emails come in, I just don't know when as I am not notified. I even tried changing the ringtones but to no avail. Maybe someone can help?
