You never disassociated this from your Apple Account. So, get the phone back, and then perform as instead here, including the iCloud logout: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. You'd likely have to sign back in to it, and then perform what is on the link. If the buyer asked for your credentials, do not share them.

Then provide the buyer with some sort of credit, in a legal fashion. If sold off of eBay, then have the seller contact you, or just let them keep it, granting them the return.
