Zoom Utility and issues with Metal graphics acceleration
So I reported this as a bug last week but thought having more eyes on it may help.
Ok, so I am visually impaired, and I depend on the Zoom accessibility feature to see my 15 inch MacBook Air M2. What I’m about to describe also happened on my old M1 Air, so it’s definitely on the software side.
When you have the zoom utility on, and an app like Final Cut Pro open, or Affinity Photo 2 with Metal support enabled, the screen dims. This is irrespective of auto brightness settings, or the screen brightness settings themselves.
I discovered through troubleshooting with Serif on Affinity Photo 2, that unchecking the checkbox for Metal hardware graphics acceleration caused the screen to remain at its normal brightness. This tells me it is definitely an issue with Zoom and Metal. What kind of issue, I could not say.
Unfortunately in some apps you can’t disable Metal, as it’s a requirement to even use the app. Now I love apps like LumaFusion and Final Cut Pro, but unless we can find a workaround, I can’t use the apps on my Mac anymore.
Suggestions?
