my neighbor gave me his Apple TV box. it will not connect it messages to "try back later", He was listed as the default user on the settings but I removed and tried to ad my ID. What can I do to make this work?

When receiving an Apple device that was previously used by a different user, then it is always a good idea to

reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support

and then set it up “as new” from a blank slate.
