iphone how to set alarm to go over bluetooth to remote headphones?

I have headphones I can wear at night while I sleep. They can play white noise via an app and bluetooth on my iPhone, but this is not what I want. Instead I want to set an alarm on my iPhone to ring over my headphones to wake me up and I want to set the volume so I don't wake my husband. How do I do this?

I confirm that the alarm does not play any sound through a Bluetooth headset no matter what settings are used. Instead, the alarm plays on the iPhone. When wearing headphones, the iPhone cannot be heard. The guidance provided does nothing to fix the problem, as others also note. This is lousy and should be fixed! Frustrated and disappointed. Do better Apple.

Been struggling with this for a while and think I may have found a solution! You can actually set this up through the Shortcuts app. You can't connect it to the Clock app for it work.

In Shortcuts, you have to set it up for a specific song from your library and set the time for it to go off. I just tested it with my sound bar and it worked flawlessly! I hope this helps!!

I also have this issue, and nothing in Apple Support or online has resolved it. I work really late nights from home, and it's very frustrating to have my alarms and alerts ring only on my phone, and not my AirPod Pro's, waking up my family. How has this not been resolved by now?

I agree and reconfirm. I’ve actually woken up late and almost missed a meeting because of having missed my alarm due to this issue. If I’m wearing Bluetooth devices, why would I not want to hear my alarm through them? I fly and sleep in hotels often, and am a light sleeper so to block out noise, I use a Bluetooth enabled eye mask. I now know I can’t wear this overnight if I actually want to wake up on time. Apple really should fix this. I’d like to understand the logic of not playing alarms through Bluetooth, or at least giving a setting option.

My morning alarm will not sound through my Bluetooth speaker. I have followed the guidance given and I have taken both my phone and speaker to the phone store and I have involved others in the tech community. No one can get this to work. I have been told by numerous people that this all changed in one of the last few updates. I am having to purchase an alarm clock because of this! Please fix this issue!

Same here - I’ve tried everything I could find online (including Apple support) and nothing works. I have multiple pairs of Bluetooth headphones that I use because I can’t sleep through my wife’s snoring. I have tried AirPod Pro’s, Sony WF-1000XM5’s and WH-1000XM5’s and Soundcore Liberty 4 NC. Not one of them will play my wake up alarm set on my iPhone 15 Plus. VERY frustrating! My only work-around (which I don’t like) is to wear my Apple Watch all night and hope that its haptic feedback will wake me up.

Do Not Disturb and the Ring/Silent switch don’t affect the alarm sound. If you set your Ring/Silent switch to Silent or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm will still sound.

If your alarm doesn’t sound or is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Set the volume on your iPhone. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume up or volume down button to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag the slider under Ringtone and Alert Volume.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure your alarm sound isn’t set to None. Open the Clock app, tap the Alarm tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect headphones to your iPhone, the alarm will play at a set volume through the built-in speakers on your iPhone as well as wired and wireless headphones.

Manually adjusting the time on your iPhone in Settings to change app behaviour, such as game timers, isn’t recommended and can affect alarms.

I just found this thread and I don't have a screenshot available but my flow was this:

Shortcuts > Automation > Alarm > Goes Off, Existing (pick alarm), Run Immediately > Play Music (select song)

Goes off, existing, and run immediately are the settings I used but there are other options in that spot.

Using these settings it played over my headphones as soon as I tested it.

My phone is not set to vibrate. I adjusted the slider and heard the sound. I went to clock and it set the alarm needed to be set up in health and it let me go there. To test it I set my bedtime to 3:15 am and my wakeup time to 2:15 pm and pressed add schedule. But it did not go off at 2:15. Also I checked my bluetooth and it is on although when I adjusted the sound I didn't hear it on my wireless headphones which are charged. (I have used them before with a a white noise app so know it works.

I called Apple support. There is no option to have the ‘Clock’ app play through Bluetooth. Instead, try the ‘Alarm Clock’ app. It’s $9.99 / year. Does not play music but has good sound options like rooster crowing and air horn. Will wake you up if your headset is working.

It isn’t in Settings. It is an app on your iPhone. On your Home Screen, place your finger mid-screen (without touching any icon) and swipe down to reveal the search bar. Type shortcuts, or just shor, and the icon for the Shortcuts app should appear in the search results. You can open the app from there.
