How does someone accept the account recovery contact request?

I can’t figure out how to accept someone’s and my family can’t see how to accept mine. The link that comes with the request doesn’t help, and when I go on the account recovery page in settings it doesn’t show a way to accept or decline.

Hey sgoldberg96,

They should get a text message saying they were added (if in the same Family Sharing group) or one inviting them to accept to be your Account Recovery Contact. They may also be able to see it in Settings on their device. Also, if you check on your device do you see them listed? Those steps can be found under "View and remove a recovery contact" here: Help prevent being locked out of your Apple device - Apple Support

Let us know what you find.

Take care!

There is no link to accept. There is a link to the article about recovery contacts which does not have a place to accept. I can see that I’ve added contacts on that page but that it is still pending their acceptance. I was also asked to be a recovery contact by my mom but nothing shows up related to accepting it on the page.

This is what the text looks like from my mom asking me to be an account lol recovery contact. My contacts got the same thing. There is no way to accept from this text and the link does not tell anyone how to accept, it just says that they need to accept. This should be more clearly explained, it is hard to figure out.

Hey there sgoldberg96,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We'll be happy to help with your account.

You'll want to make sure both devices meet the minimum requirements, as described here: Set up an account recovery contact - Apple Support

  1. Then, from your device, go to Settings > tap your name.
  2. Tap Password & Security > Account Recovery.
  3. Under Account Recovery (or Recovery Assistance), tap Add Recovery Contact > authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID.
  4. If you're in a Family Sharing group, the members of the group will be recommended as options. You can also choose one of your contacts instead
  5. If you select a family member, they'll be added automatically. If you select one of your contacts, they'll need to accept the request before set up can complete. You'll also send them a message to let them know that you'd like to add them as your recovery contact.
  6. Once they accept the request, you'll see a message stating that they have been added.

Take care.
