shift-cmd-ctrl-4" copies, but won't paste. Why not?
Cmd-V in Excel not working, not even in "New from clipboard" in Preview. No help-functions in the M2 macbook either. So, Microsoft is the better option for this function then?

I don't know about the Excel client on iOS, but on macOS, Excel has no New from Clipboard menu entry, but Apple's Preview application does. Attempting to paste an image from the clipboard simply causes Excel to beep.
The screenshot keyboard shortcut that you are using places a screenshot selection area onto the clipboard as image data, not text.
