How to change the name of a device in Find My Mac

Right now, you have to be in possession of the device to change its name. This should really be decoupled. If a device is stolen, I'd like to mark it as stolen and give it a different name. I don't want to refer to each new device with a suffix (eg. `-YY-MM`).

How can this be accomplished today?

Recommend this to Apple:

Do your Part: Unfortunately, this is not a direct option for iCloud, as of this reply. So, recommend to Apple that the make it such.  Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they reeve on this, the more they'll know what their customers' prefer, and what to include in versions to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iCloud - Apple
  2. Select: "Find My" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that you want this to be an option, and why. Include the URL of this post.
  4. Proceed form there as necessary
