Hello Jacob,

Not sure if this info can help you.

The Apple Magic Keyboard (Model A1644) is a wireless keyboard that uses a built-in rechargeable battery. Unlike some other keyboards, the battery in the Magic Keyboard is not meant to be user-replaceable. This means that Apple has designed it as a sealed unit, and the battery cannot be easily replaced by the user without potentially damaging the keyboard.

If your Magic Keyboard's battery is no longer holding a charge or is experiencing issues, here are a few steps you can take:

  1. Check Warranty and Support: If your Magic Keyboard is still under warranty or AppleCare coverage, it's a good idea to contact Apple Support. They can provide assistance and potentially replace the keyboard if necessary.
  2. Visit an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider: If the keyboard is not functioning due to battery issues, you might want to visit an Apple Store or an authorized service provider. They can assess the situation and determine if the keyboard needs to be repaired or replaced.
  3. External Charging: In some cases, if your Magic Keyboard's battery is completely depleted and not charging, you might be able to temporarily use the keyboard while it's connected to a power source via the Lightning cable. This will not replace the battery, but it can help you continue using the keyboard while seeking a solution.
  4. Consider Upgrading: If your Magic Keyboard is significantly outdated and experiencing battery issues, you might consider upgrading to a newer model. Newer versions of the Magic Keyboard might have improved battery life and features.

Remember that tampering with the internal components of the Magic Keyboard could void any warranty or support coverage you have, and it might lead to further issues. Therefore, it's generally recommended to seek professional assistance from Apple or authorized service providers if you're experiencing battery-related problems with your Magic Keyboard.

Thanks

Paul

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to check battery health (not %), on an iMac using Ventura 13? Thanks.

Donno. An app such as Battery Health, iStat Menus, or CoconutBattery might show that data.

But more pragmatically, cut / slice / pry / saw / unscrew it open, and source and then try to replace the battery.

Assuming appropriate care with any cutting tools is used and appropriate personal protection is used, worst that happens is a still-bricked keyboard now in more and smaller parts, and a better understanding of assemblies not designed or intended for repair.

Or run it as a wired keyboard pending replacement, if that is working.

Is there any way to replace the battery if it has gone bad?
