Screen Capture highlight won't disappear

If like me you hit a bunch of keys and made most of your screen go dark apart from a highlighted section, and can't get it to go, then looked for answers here and nothing - I found a work around.


Hit Cmd>Shift>5 (which I think is the randomness that got me into trouble in the first place) > click the word record > then find the square within a circle icon in your top apple menu bar in your screen and click that - that seems to clear it all away.


And saves a restart.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6
