What does a “B” or a “P” represent before a call in the recent call log?

It is the first letter of the Name that you have assigned to the Primary and Secondary lines.
I get A & B
Because I have Assigned Airtel and BSNL as the Primary and Secondary line
You can differentiate, before answering the call, without having a different sound (Ringtone). Please see the pic below which is self-explanatory.
