time machine issues, maybe not backing up

My MacBook Pro was unplugged last week but has been connected again for several days. I noticed an error message saying that Time Machine hadn't backed up because it was on battery power. In years of using Macs, I'd never seen that message, but after looking at some help articles I found the menu to change to allowing backups when it's on battery. Related, or not, I'm not sure my new external backup drive is working (ArmorLock G Drive). I thought it was successfully set up, but a message under TM settings says it only made one backup two weeks ago, which is approximately when I installed the new external drive, and that a the next backup will occur "after disk is connected." It is plugged in directly to the computer. Since it makes hourly backups, will that information update shortly? I tried to test the backups by opening TM and checking on a file I edited yesterday, then on a version from a week ago. The newer one reflects my recent changes, so does that mean backups ARE occurring despite the information in System Settings for TM? Should I be contacting support for the drive or Apple?

Hold the Option key and see if there is "Browse Other Backup Disk...(?)

Open TM Settings and verify your settings...

Open the Time Machine interface and see what is there...
