To STOP segments during a workout on Apple Watch:

Select the Workout Activity, such as "Outdoor Walk" NOTE: Do not start the walk, instead:

  1. Tap the 3 dots in the upper righthand corner
  2. Then, Tap the Pencil Icon
  3. Then, SCROLL down to "Splits"
  4. Tap "Splits"
  5. Where it says "Splits Alert' ensure you TURN OFF the alert by tapping the righthand "slide" to GRAY instead of GREEN.
  6. This should turn off your unwanted segments and splits notifications. The segments should be available once you stop your workout, should you want to access them.

Why should we have to disable lap splits to get rid of segments. I get segment alerts when a damp sleeve touches the screen. I’ll never use segments but always use 1 mile splits.

Please for all that is holy give us the option to disable segments!

It is funny you mention this; the exact same thing happened to me this morning as I had a long sleeve shirt - I ended up with more than 20 segments (which I don’t need at all). Also, each time a drop of sweat lands on the watch it creates a segment - SO FREAKING RIDICULOUS!!!!

I had it with this watch - I just pull the trigger on a Garmin watch! So disappointing Apple!

Well, I see I'm not the only one who experiences this "segments" problem; I thought for a while it was an operator error issue. It happened again just yesterday, during the final mile of a five-mile run, when my watch announced what must've been 10 or 12 segments. I've looked at the various solutions suggested by others here, but none worked for me. Very frustrating.

That appears to work for cycling, which I haven't had any problem with, but I don't see it for outdoor walk or run. I only have problems with those two.

At least now I know in case I do have segment problems with cycling. Regardless, thanks for the info.

I just had the same thing happen on my brand new Ultra2 today—my first Apple watch ever. This bug ruined the very first run I took. I had no idea how long I had run, so I had to restart the workout about five times.

Before I, too, bail on Apple for a better sports watch, can anyone report whether a running app like Strava installed on the watch gets around this problem?

3x triple tap on the crown is my workaround for now. It's a mode you set in accessibility > Open the Watch app on the iPhone and go to Accessibility > Touch Accommodations · Turn on Hold Duration, set it to 1s or 2s (whatever you like). That allows me to access everything while working out using buttons, but screen touches need to be held for one second or two, which results in errorless workout tracking.
