How to send .MOV files with Gmail

I am trying to email some .MOV videos files, but Gmail will not accept that format. Should I convert them to another format? If so, how?

Also, is it better if I set up something like dropbox and just send a link? If so, will Windows and Android users be able to read .MOV files?

Thank you in advance!

p.s. I am on a MacBook Pro using Catalina, 10.15.7.

You can try putting the video into Google photos, and then send the link to others. The link should be readable by windows and Android users. However, I have not tried this myself.

Are you getting some type of error message that specifically states that the .mov format is not compatible with Gmail? Or is it the the video is too big a size for the email provider?

Try using the free download Handbrake to convert the .mov format to Mp4/AAC, that Handbrake will do by default. Mp4/AAC is almost a universal format compatible everywhere.

You can get Handbrake here:

https://handbrake.fr/

A simple way to do it is to open Handbrake and do a File/Open Source. Navigate to your video and choose it as the source from the resulting screen. Then do File/Start Encoding. Wait a couple of minutes for the conversion to

complete. Then save and import the converted clip into iMovie.
