It has worked in past. Took to an Apple store and they retrieved files. Those files got erased. I purchased SATA connector but MacBook Pro will not read it.
iMac (2017 – 2020)
The SATA connector needs its own power source via AC/DC. Without it, the hard drive may not spin up at all.
If you have one with its own power source and nothing is visible on Disk Utility, bring the drive back to the store to find out why it isn't legible.
It would seem that that drive has failed due to its age.
Old IMAC quit working. Removed hard drive. Connected to Macbook Pro with SATA and IMAC drive is not responding
