Multiple application support folders in User Library

I'm running OS 12.6.8 on a 2019 Mac Pro 7,1. I discovered two duplicate, apparently identical "Application Support" folders in my boot-disk's User/Library folder. I thought such same-named folders were not possible in the MacOS, so this confuses me. Both folders contain "Log" folders, which themselves contain "Sample" folders. ALL the folders are empty, whether invisibility is toggled on or off. The "Sample" folders suggest these were created by an audio app. I need to know if it's OK to delete one of these "Application Support" folders. Here's a screenshot of the User/Library directory:

You would have to use the Terminal to see exactly what these are.

The Finder can synthesize and combine data in various different ways. The most likely explanation is that these folders actually have a different name and include special tags to display a localized name. The Finder doesn't care if two different folders have the same localized name. It will display them both with the same name.

Also, it looks like the problem is really occurring with the Library folder. You seem to have more than one of those. Again, it could be the same issue with localized names. Or it could even be something else like a space after the name (or either Library or Application Support or both)

Toggling invisibility (Command-Shift-.) reveals that there are two Library folders in my User folder, as I said in an earlier post. Terminal's ls command shows me that the non-blessed Library folder has "?Library" as its name. That clarifies why Finder tolerates the two folders' simultaneous existence. Why that preceding ? character in the non-standard Library folder's name was not displayed when I toggled invisibility adds to my confusion.

In sum, I have two Library folders in my User folder when I should only have one. One of them is the expected, blessed Library folder that's normally invisible; the other has a non-standard name and was evidently created by some software on my machine. The contents of the non-standard Library folder consist of two Application Support folders. Terminal's ls reveals that those folders' names differ by an invisible suffix consisting of the last letter of the folder's name followed by a space. That explains why Finder displays them as it does. That is, I suppose, some progress toward understanding what's happening.

Why this non-standard Library folder exists at all remains a mystery, as does its having two Application Support folders within it. The existence of Sample folders in both Application Support folders suggests an audio app as their origin. To discover the answer I suspect I'll have to direct some pointed questions to the makers of my audio software.

I put it to you that the problem is not really with the two “Application Support” folders but really with the two “Library” folders. Obviously the one with lots of content looks normal, the one with two seemingly identical folders is ABnormal.

Try this: go to your home folder (eg by pressing Command-Shift-H) press Command-J to Show View Options and check the box to show the Library.

Now look at it: I bet you will have TWO Library folders.

Nope. Nothing hidden. Both are precisely the same size, which probably means they were created by the same audio app. It gets even more interesting. Your observation regarding what's usually in an "Application Support" folder is accurate. When I select the User/Library folder from the Finder "Go" menu, I am directed to a different User/Library folder than when I navigate directly via BootDisk/Users/User/Library. The former is the blessed folder; the latter lacks the library icon. The "Library" folder without the library icon is visible all the time; the blessed "Library" folder is only visible when I toggle invisibility off, or when I go to it via the Finder "Go" command. A non-blessed "Library" folder has been added to my User folder. Something is very weird here... Here's a screen shot. The paths are identical; the only difference is how I got there - manual navigation on the left, the "Go" command on the right:

Not really. People's expectations regarding software quality are wildly exaggerated. And the more you spend for the software, the worse the quality will be. And if it is actually hardware, then the software will simply be trash.

I'll have to direct some pointed questions to the makers of my audio software.

Good luck!
