Disabling auto boot upon lid open for M2 chip can break the machine
By default, Macbook Pro automatically turns on when the lid is open. This feature is extremely annoying, because turning on the machine at unintended times (e.g. lid opens by accident during bumpy ride, or when there is a water spill) can shorten the lifespan. Also it feels almost like an insult to not give users the most fundamental control like when to turn on the machine.
Searching for solutions online, my impression is that the solution mentioned here and here only works for Intel chips, not M1 / M2 chips. After I entered the command `sudo nvram auto-boot=false` to disable the autoboot feature, the machine broke down and won't boot the next time I turn on, and I had to revive the macbook.
I really hope Apple will (1) fix this issue, (2) give users more control, and (3) stop sacrificing usability for sleek design. I returned the Macbook Pro 16'' I purchased and went for PC due to this nonsensical issue. Hating to admit that never once in my life would Windows PC have better quality than Macbook, I am upset that one really bad design choice by Apple forced me to make the call.
